Bill (offthebox) is currently a doctoral student in Music Education at Indiana University.  He recently completed five years as Director of Bands at at a magnet school for the performing arts in southwestern Florida.  His teaching duties included teaching the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and Music History. He also directed the marching Whirlwind Brigade during the fall semester. Under Bill’s direction, the school’s Wind Ensemble made its Carnegie Hall debut in New York City in the spring of 2007. He also founded the school’s Chamber Winds, which performed at Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in April 2009. 

Prior to this, Bill completed his Masters of Music degree in Wind Band Conducting at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in May 2004. During his two years in Lincoln, Bill worked as a graduate teaching assistant, helping conduct the university’s Symphonic Band and Campus Band. He also worked with the 300 member UNL Marching Band and the Big Red Express pep bands. He earned his undergraduate degree from Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky. As an undergraduate student at Transy, Bill was a recipient of the prestigious William T. Young full academic scholarship for four years. During that time, he was active in the concert band, jazz band, pep band, concert choir, and madrigal singers, and received the Ruchman Music Award his senior year for outstanding achievement in music. He graduated magna cum laude with honors in music with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Music Education in May of 1997. Bill completed five years of teaching in southeastern Kentucky, where he worked as a middle school band director and served as an assistant for the high school marching program.  Bill doubled participation in his middle school band program to over 200 students and founded the district’s first middle school jazz program.
